These nodes contain lymphocytes, which neutralize or destroy invading bacteria and viruses. If the body is inflamed or diseased, the nearby lymph nodes become swollen and tender. Lymph massage supports the immune system and can improve lymph functioning through relaxing the soft tissue with massage. As the lymph vessels are generally near the surface of the skin, the massage is light with small circular movements including brushing.
